Office of Public Petitions

What This Is

A place to file a petition about anything, and to sign the petitions of others. The petitions are small. The grievances are real enough.

Important Petitions is a work of satire. There is no Office of Public Petitions. There is no Records Division. Nobody is considering these filings, and the tagline is not a figure of speech: filed by the people, considered by no one.

It is not a government

This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any government, agency, or public body of any kind. The seals, form numbers, and stamps are set dressing. Nothing filed here carries legal weight, creates any obligation, or reaches anyone in a position to act. A petition that reaches its signature goal is marked Enacted. This is a statement about arithmetic, not about the world.

What a signature is

A signature is a name, a jurisdiction, and one stated reason. No verification is performed. The signature written onto the instrument is not legally binding in any jurisdiction, including the ones the petitions name.

What to file

The cereal box that will not close. The third lane that ends at the bridge. The phrase that has come to mean the matter is closed. If it has bothered you on a schedule no one agreed to, it is in scope. What is not in scope is set out in the filing standards.

This record has no legal effect. Records retained indefinitely. Acted upon never.
